Now Available on Amazon: Even SBCs Can Be Bought by eCommerce
It’s one thing to be able to order groceries from Whole Foods on Amazon and have them delivered to your door in a matter of minutes.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is bringing their own menu of real time communications technologies to businesses and enterprises today, continually enhancing their range of applications and the supporting services that enable those apps to run securely and reliably. This week’s announcement by Ribbon Communications about expanding their existing relationship with AWS by making available their Session Border Controller Software Edition (SWe) on the AWS Marketplace and as an AWS Quick Start is another example of how IT teams are now able to buy and implement RTC with minimal effort compared to traditional on-prem provisioning of equipment and software, connected with IP network services.
In other words, ensuring applications like Microsoft Teams are secure and high quality just got a lot easier.
AWS Marketplace is a simple and convenient sales channel that streamlines software delivery, making it easy for Ribbon to offer its SBC SWe solution to customers and partners. The AWS Quick Start for Ribbon SBC SWe was purpose-built by AWS solutions architects and Ribbon, based on AWS best practices for security and high availability, to help customers and prospects easily deploy Ribbon’s SBC SWe on AWS.
“Multiple customers have already deployed our SBC SWe on AWS and are currently running production traffic,” said Kevin Riley, Chief Technology Officer of Ribbon. “The launch of our SBC SWe on AWS Marketplace and AWS Quick Starts is another significant milestone as we continually expand our cloud-based solutions to improve the customer communications experience.”
Riley added, “We are pleased to expand our relationship with AWS to offer our customers two additional simplified, convenient methods to rapidly access, test and deploy the Ribbon SBC SWe in support of secure, reliable real-time communication services.”
The Ribbon SBC SWe has been optimized for AWS to provide advanced security, while supporting high capacity requirements, for real-time, multimedia Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) traffic. Additionally, Ribbon’s SBC SWe delivers carrier-class redundancy to ensure service continuity; is deployable on multiple cloud environments; provides industry-leading media transcoding using GPUs to scale for high-density transcoding; and is certified for Microsoft Phone System Direct Routing, Skype for Business, Lync 2013 and Lync 2010.
Ribbon is one of dozens of vendors providing network infrastructure related solutions. Their landing page on AWS reads, “Are you providing, or consuming, unified communications, conferencing and collaboration, or contact center services on AWS? Then you will benefit from a Ribbon SBC to ensure security, performance, and availability of these real-time communication applications. The Ribbon SBC SWe provides robust inter-working for VoIP signaling and media traffic, policy management to ensure QoS, and multiple security features to protect privacy and ensure regulatory compliance.”
The page also summarizes a full suite of session border control security features, high performance media transcoding with GPU instances and deployments in standalone, redundant, or high availability configurations.
There is a calculator included on the page with variable hourly rates, depending on the instances, and an estimated $300 per month infrastructure cost.
